For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed.  A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

 Essential Functions:


 Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED.


  • Four (4) years of animal control experience. 


  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must obtain a basic Animal Control Officer (ACO) certification and euthanasia certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) within one (1) year of employment.


  • Availability to work various/varying shifts including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Subject to inclement weather.


  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • MS Office or similar software skills.
  • Ability to lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to read and interpret City, State and Federal regulations in an enforcement capacity.
  • Ability to make public presentations and/or appear in court.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records to track and report unit performance.


  • Valid ACO certification from the National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA) plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Valid (NACA) or state issued Animal Cruelty certification plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.


  • Animal emergency response or animal first response experience is a plus.
