Job Opening-Code Enforcement Officer

America’s Code Enforcement is a private company which provides code enforcement service to our local cities(North Texas area).  


We are looking to find someone who has 5+ years in code enforcement or similar work.  The position will be 28-32 hours per week. 




The functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Responsible for enforcing the City’s zoning and nuisance ordinance, housing code, building code, dangerous building code, State Health and Safety Code, and other codes as directed.
  2. The Code Enforcement Officer, with excellent record keeping skills, will receive and investigate complaints, document findings and setup code enforcement case files in the America’s Code Enforcement computer system, prepare correspondence, document phone conversations, and issue citations as needed.
  3. He or she will work with citizens, neighborhood homeowners’ associations, and the general public in presenting the City’s code enforcement programs.
  4. The Code Enforcement Officer may have to work weekends and evenings for special cases.
  5. Keep and prepare timely, accurate, thorough records for court hearings; testify in court on code enforcement cases.
  6. Produce staff reports and related documents.
  7. Create and provide presentations to City Council as requested.
  8. Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.


  1. The Code Enforcement Officer has daily contact with the general public, including: building occupants, property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, land developers and City staff; for the purpose of information sharing and gathering.
  2. These contacts may be confrontational and require the Code Enforcement Officer to resolve both technical and interpersonal issues while ensuring compliance.
  3. Skill in gaining compliance while maintaining cooperative work relationships is essential.
  4. The Code Enforcement Officer coordinates with other City Departments, State, and local regulatory agencies, to ensure accurate and consistent enforcement.


Working Conditions:

  1. The Code Enforcement Officer may work in hazardous areas, including: climbing in, on, under, and around heavy equipment; steep terrain; and in confined spaces.
  2. Outside site inspections may involve inclement weather, mudded sites and may involve hazards such as exposure to potentially dangerous’ animals and animal bites.
  3. These areas may be dirty, wet, and noisy, filled with insulation, and may contain unpleasant odors.
  4. Protective gear may be required in certain code enforcement inspection situations.
  5. Complaint response may involve the potential for confrontations, physical violence, and/or difficult conversation with irate members of the public.
  6. Some work is performed in an office setting.
