GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for performing a variety of jobs related to animal control. Including, but not limited to investigation of citizen complaints, maintenance of animal shelter, feeding and care of animals, euthanasia, issuing written warnings and citations, working with community organizations and volunteer groups, along with other tasks as required.

 

SUPERVISION

General supervision is provided by the Chief of Police or his designee.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

· Monitor and maintain care of animals and the animal shelter.

· Investigate citizen complaints about animals at large. Must be able to deal amicably with the public and provide general knowledge of city ordinances.

· Coordinate city outreach events such as low cost vaccinations and pet adoption opportunities.

· Develop and maintain constructive relationships with City officials, other departments, community agencies and groups, and the general public regarding animal control.

· Locate and inform property owners of code violations that pertain to animals. Write letters, issue citations, follow-up on all violators to assure compliance with ordinances and state laws.

· Handle complaints from citizens and work out resolutions with assistance from the Assistant City Manager, Chief of Police, Fire Chief, or City Manager, as needed.

· Compile reports concerning animal enforcement violations and statistics.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· High school diploma or G.E.D. required.

· Completion of Animal Control Officer Basic Training preferred.

· Euthanasia Technician License preferred.

· Though preferred, Completion of Animal Control Officer Basic Training and Euthanasia Technician License are not necessary, but both must be obtained within six months after hire date.
